I have been truly blessed ...

Anyone who has hung around the Dark Side for any amount of time knows that I make my living with the word processor. To be more exact, I am a Reporter/Photographer for Fort Polk's weekly paper, the Guardian. You know what Grammys, Oscars and Golden Globes are. Well, the awards for excellence in Army Journalism are called Keith L. Ware Awards.

Every post that has a paper submits stories in a huge yearly competition. The first level of award is regional. Every Army post in the world is grouped by region. There are seven regions in all. So this past January, we all spent a couple of days gathering stories, cutting them out of papers, pasting them to cardboard and filling out entry forms. The stories were sent in for judging and the results just got back.

I PICKED UP TWO FIRST PLACE AWARDS AND ONE THIRD PLACE AWARD. ::Denice William's "Let's hear it for the boy!" from the "Footloose" soundtrack kicking it in the background::

The first place awards were for Angola: Alcatraz on the Bayou and Families in Crisis: Army divorce statistics describe serious problems on homefront. My third place was a commentary called Life in the fast lane ... at 21 percent interest.

In addition to that, My office mate won the Military Journalist of the Year Award and The Guardian won first place tabloid style newspaper. Next, the first place wins will move on to Army wide competition. At that level all the regional first place winners compete. That means I only have to beat six other journalists to win a prize.

If you consider they give out first, second and third prizes, I figure I have an almost 50-50 shot at taking something home! I don't expect to, but like they say at McDonalds ... It could happen. So if you like me, wish me luck, if you don't, you ain't reading this anyway. LOL

Oh and one more thing today, one of my stories got picked up by Army News, the Army's version of the Associated Press, for worldwide publication. Normally, I could fuck up a wet dream so being on the other side of the coin is something new to me. It felt so good, I had to tell someone about it. Sorry. Have a great night, I'm gonna have a little drinkie poo ...or 12! Laters
