The whole fam damnly ...

I don't know when this picture was taken ... probably back in the late 1930s or early 1940s. I do know it was taken in Colorado. The picture is of my grandparents, Thomas Collier and Lilly Gunn, my dad (the older brother) Thomas Charles and his brother, my uncle, Michael Gene.

My "Papaw" was a real, live, honest-to goodness cowboy. He stood 6' 7" in stocking feet and worked his ass off his whole life. When he was a kid they rode horses everywhere they went because that was the only form of transportation available at that time. He punched cows and did all the things cowboys were expected to do. My grandmother died, I believe of cancer, when my dad was only 16 and I never knew her. From the stories my dad tells, I wish I had the opportunity. The reason I am posting this pic is because I was at Sis B's site the other day and read this post about her Aunt Pearl and it brought back memories. I am working on a story about my Papaw but it hurts and it's taking a while. But I just wanted you to know it was in the pipe and I loved that man with all my heart. I hope I can finish it. Read about Aunt Pearl and you will understand.

Tommy ~ man, it's so important to save the stories and pictures 'cause if we don't they are just gone. It's gratifying to see others take such initiative to preserve.
